Result: Team 1 becomes the ChampionRound 1 - First Round: Only two teams compete in a single match (Team 16 vs Team 17). Teams 1-15 receive byes and automatically advance to the second round. The winner of this match also advances to the second round.
Round 2 - Second Round: Sixteen teams compete in eight matches. The Round 1 winner faces Team 1 (bye), while all other bye teams face each other. The eight winners advance to Round 3.
Round 3 - Third Round: Eight teams compete in four matches. In this example, Team 1, Team 2, Team 4, and Team 6 advance. The four winners move on to Round 4.
Round 4 - Semifinals: Four teams compete in two matches. In this example, Team 1 defeats Team 2, and Team 8 defeats Team 14 to reach the championship final.
Round 5 - Championship Final: The two semifinal winners compete for the tournament title. In this example, Team 1 defeats Team 8 to become champion.
Total Matches: A 17 team bracket requires exactly 16 matches (1 first round + 8 second round + 4 third round + 2 semifinals + 1 final). This efficient structure minimizes first-round games while maintaining competitive balance.
