How Does a 5 Team double Elimination Bracket Work?

A 5 team double elimination bracket uses three byes in the first round. Here s how it works:

Round 1 Semifinals Final
─────── ────────── ─────

Team 1 (BYE) ┐
                      ├── Team 1 (Win) ┐
Team 4 (Win) ┐ │ │
                  ├───┘ │
Team 5 (Lose) ┘ ├── Team 1 (Win)
                                                 │
Team 2 (BYE) ┐ │
                      ├── Team 2 (Lose) ┘
Team 3 (BYE) ┘

Result: Team 1 becomes the Champion

Round 1 - First Round: Only Team 4 and Team 5 compete. Teams 1, 2, and 3 receive byes and automatically advance to the semifinals. The winner of Team 4 vs Team 5 also advances to the semifinals.

Round 2 - Semifinals: Two matches are played. In this example: Team 1 (bye) faces the Round 1 winner (Team 4), and Team 2 (bye) faces Team 3 (bye). The winners advance to the final.

Round 3 - Final: The two semifinal winners compete for the championship. In this example, Team 1 defeats Team 2 to become champion.

Total Matches: A 5 team bracket requires 4 matches total (1 first round + 2 semifinals + 1 final). This makes it efficient for small tournaments.
